Isochoric Process (Isovolumetric)
A process that occurs at a constant volume, meaning no work is done by the system.
State Function
A property of a system that depends only on the current state of the system, not on the way it got there.
Isobaric Process
A thermodynamic process that occurs at a constant pressure.
Adiabatic Process
A process in which no heat is transferred to or from the system by its surroundings.
Isothermal Process
A thermodynamic process that occurs at a constant temperature.
Internal Energy ()
The total of all forms of energy contained within a system.
Heat ()
Energy transferred between systems or surroundings due to temperature difference.
Thermodynamic Cycle
A sequence of processes that start and end at the same state; the net heat transferred is equal to the net work done over one cycle.
First Law of Thermodynamics
The total energy of an isolated system is constant; energy can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed.
Work ()
The energy transferred when a force is applied over a distance; in thermodynamics, it's the work done by the system during volume change.
