Sit
Dog sits down on its haunches. Use a treat held over the dog's head to lure it into position, then say 'Sit' and reward when the dog complies.
Stay
Dog remains in the sitting, standing, or down position until released. Train by asking the dog to sit or lie down, give the 'Stay' command with a hand signal, and gradually increase the duration and distance.
Back Up
Dog walks backwards. Step towards the dog while gently gesturing back, use a verbal cue like 'Back Up', and reward the movement.
Speak
Dog barks on command. Encourage barking with a trigger like the doorbell, then give the 'Speak' command and reward the dog for barking.
Stand
Dog stands on all fours. Encourage the dog to rise from a sit or down position with a treat lure and say 'Stand' as it complies.
Down
Dog lies down on its belly. Lure the dog with a treat close to the ground and say 'Down', then reward once the position is assumed.
Beg
Dog sits with front paws off the ground, as if begging. Hold a treat above the dog's head and say 'Beg' as it raises its paws, then give the treat.
Go to Your Place
Dog goes to a specific location and stays there. Train by throwing a treat onto a bed or mat and giving the command as the dog moves towards it, then reward the dog for staying.
Shake Hands
Dog places its paw in the handler's hand. Take the paw into your hand gently and say 'Shake', then reward the dog.
Find It
Dog searches for a hidden treat or object. Hide a treat while the dog watches, give the 'Find It' command, and praise the dog for finding it.
Quiet
Dog stops barking. Train by speaking calmly, offering a treat when the dog stops barking, and giving the 'Quiet' command during the silence.
Fetch
Dog retrieves an object and brings it back to the handler. Start by throwing a favorite toy a short distance and encourage the dog to grab it. Once the dog picks it up, recall them back to you and reward.
Roll Over
Dog lies down, rolls over, and stands back up. Lure the dog into a 'Down' position, then use a treat to guide it into a roll. Say 'Roll Over' as it completes the action.
Spin
Dog turns around in a circle. Lead the dog in a circular motion with a treat right at its nose and say 'Spin' as it does the turn, then reward.
Come
Dog returns to the trainer when called. Practice this command with a joyful voice, use treats or toys as rewards, and gradually increase the distance.
Leave It
Dog disengages from whatever it is interested in or is doing. Begin training with an object of low interest, give the command and reward the dog for looking away from the object.
Play Dead
Dog lies on its side as if dead. Train by using the 'Down' command, then luring the dog onto its side with a treat and rewarding upon compliance with the 'Play Dead' cue.
Heel
Dog walks close to the handler's side without pulling. Start with the dog sitting at your side, use a treat to lure it to walk alongside you, then introduce the 'Heel' command.
Drop It
Dog releases an item from its mouth. Offer a treat in exchange for the item in the mouth, and once it drops it, say 'Drop It' and give the treat.
Bow
Dog lowers its front shoulders while keeping rear end up. Lure the dog into the bowing position with a treat and use the command 'Bow' when it does, then provide the treat.
