Symptoms: Hardening on the collateral cartilages above the hoof, lameness when calcification is complete. Treatment: Limited, pain management, shockwave therapy. Prevention: Avoiding concussion to the hooves, proper shoeing, regular hoof care.
Abscess
Symptoms: Severe lameness, heat, swelling. Treatment: Drainage, hoof soak, antibiotics if bacterial infection is present. Prevention: Regular hoof care, avoid sharp objects in the environment, maintain clean and dry conditions.
