Flashcards
0/6
Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
Increases risk for pyelonephritis, preterm labor, and low birth weight. Management includes appropriate antibiotic therapy, increased fluid intake, and possibly prophylactic antibiotics if recurrent.
Glomerulonephritis
May cause hypertension, proteinuria, and reduced kidney function. Management includes controlling blood pressure, reducing proteinuria, and monitoring fetal well-being.
Pre-existing Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Worsening of kidney function, increased risk of fetal complications, and preterm delivery. Management includes close monitoring of kidney function, blood pressure control, and possibly adjusting medications.
Hydronephrosis of Pregnancy
Caused by the compression of the ureters by the growing uterus, may lead to urinary stasis and infections. Management usually involves observation, pain relief, and treating any superimposed infections.
Preeclampsia
Can lead to kidney damage, HELLP syndrome, and eclampsia. Management includes blood pressure control, close monitoring, and timely delivery when necessary.
Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
May complicate any trimester, increases the risk of chronic kidney disease. Management includes identifying and treating the underlying cause, ensuring adequate hydration, and avoiding nephrotoxic drugs.
