Flashcards
0/6
Polysaccharides
Long chains of monosaccharide units. Provide sustained energy. Examples: Starch, Glycogen, Cellulose.
Oligosaccharides
Carbohydrates composed of 3-10 monosaccharide units. Often found in dietary fiber. Examples: Raffinose, Stachyose.
Starches
A type of polysaccharide. Stores energy in plants. Readily broken down into glucose by humans. Examples: Potatoes, Rice, Pasta.
Monosaccharides
Simplest form of carbohydrates that cannot be broken down further. Quick energy source. Examples: Glucose, Fructose, Galactose.
Fiber
A type of polysaccharide that is not digestible by humans. Promotes digestive health. Examples: Inulin, Beta-glucan, Cellulose.
Disaccharides
Formed by two monosaccharides linked together. Short-term energy source. Examples: Sucrose, Lactose, Maltose.
