Substance Abuse
Regular and excessive use of a substance despite its negative effects on health. Examples include alcohol, nicotine, and illegal drugs.
Gambling Addiction
Continued gambling behavior despite risk or actual significant negative consequences. Examples include playing slot machines, betting on sports or playing poker.
Internet Addiction
Excessive or poorly controlled preoccupations, urges, or behaviors regarding internet use that lead to impairment or distress. Examples include compulsive online gaming, social media use, or shopping.
Sex Addiction
Engagement in persistent and escalating patterns of sexual behavior despite increasing negative consequences to self and others. Examples include compulsive pornography use, masturbation, or multiple affairs.
Food Addiction
An extreme craving for food that leads to compulsive overeating, particularly of high-fat, sugary, or salty foods, even when not hungry. Examples include binge eating and compulsive snacking.
Shopping Addiction
Compulsive shopping or buying that is often a response to stress, a way to obtain gratification, or a means to feel in control. Examples include chronic overspending and accumulation of debt.
Exercise Addiction
Compulsive engagement in physical exercise, despite negative consequences such as injuries or personal obligations. Examples include obsessive running, gym sessions, or fitness tracking.
Work Addiction
Obsessive-compulsive work behavior where an individual works excessively and uncontrollably. Examples include working long hours, taking work home, and working despite illness or family concerns.
