Bridging Social Capital
Bridging social capital is the relationships between people who are not alike and may be weaker ties, but these relationships can bring together different groups and potentially offer access to new information or opportunities.
The Strength of Weak Ties
Mark Granovetter's 'The Strength of Weak Ties' thesis suggests that weak social ties, due to their bridging capacity, can be unexpectedly valuable because they serve as conduits for information or resources that are not accessible through close relationships.
Social Capital
Social capital refers to the networks of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to function effectively.
Bonding Social Capital
Bonding social capital is the relationships between people in a network who are similar in some form, like family members or close friends, which creates a strong support system.
Linking Social Capital
Linking social capital refers to the relationships between people across explicit, formal or institutionalized power or authority gradients in society.
Reciprocity Norm
The Reciprocity Norm is a social norm that expects that if someone does something for you, you should return the favor and that these reciprocal actions form the basis of social networks.
Social Network Analysis (SNA)
Social Network Analysis is a methodological approach to studying the structure of social relations, where social structures are comprised of nodes (individual actors, people, or things within the network) and ties (the relationships or interactions between these nodes).
Network Closure
Network closure occurs when there is a strong, interconnected network or group in which all individuals are directly or indirectly linked to one another, thus creating a dense web of social ties.
