Follicular Thyroid Cancer
Second most common type. Good prognosis, but slightly lower survival rate than papillary. Can metastasize to lungs and bones.
Papillary Thyroid Cancer
Most common type, accounts for about 80% of all cases. Generally has a good prognosis, with a 10-year survival rate of over 90%.
Thyroid Lymphoma
Extremely rare thyroid cancer. Usually presents in older patients with a rapidly enlarging thyroid mass. Treatment often involves chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Medullary Thyroid Cancer
Accounts for 3-4% of thyroid cancers. Prognosis is fair, with a 10-year survival rate of about 75%. Can be sporadic or part of multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes.
Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer
Rarest and most aggressive type, with a very poor prognosis. Often diagnosed at a late stage; 1-year survival rate is around 20%.
Hurthle Cell Thyroid Cancer
A variant of follicular thyroid cancer. Less common with a prognosis that's somewhat worse than typical follicular cancer. Can spread to lymph nodes and distant sites.
