Head Injury
1. Keep the child still and observe for changes in consciousness. 2. Apply a cold compress. 3. Seek medical attention if there are signs of a concussion or severe injury.
Suspected Broken Bone
1. Immobilize the injured area. 2. Apply ice wrapped in cloth. 3. Elevate the limb if possible and seek medical attention.
Eye Injury
1. Do not allow the child to rub the eye. 2. If a foreign object is present, do not attempt to remove it. 3. Shield the eye and seek medical attention.
Heat Exhaustion
1. Move the child to a cooler place, out of the sun. 2. Use cool cloths on their skin; encourage them to sip water. 3. Loosen or remove tight clothing and seek medical attention if symptoms are severe.
Animal Bite
1. Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth to stop bleeding. 2. Clean the wound with soap and water. 3. Apply an over-the-counter antibiotic cream and cover wound with a sterile bandage; seek medical attention.
Insect Stings
1. Remove the stinger by scraping sideways with a credit card. 2. Apply ice pack wrapped in cloth. 3. Monitor for allergic reactions and call emergency services if needed.
Asthma Attack
1. Help child sit in a comfortable position. 2. Assist with using a rescue inhaler. 3. Call emergency services if there's no improvement or if breathing worsens.
Nosebleed
1. Have the child sit upright and lean forward. 2. Pinch the soft part of the nose. 3. Maintain pressure for 10 minutes and avoid checking frequently.
Poisoning
1. Determine what substance was ingested. 2. Do not induce vomiting. 3. Call your regional poison control center or emergency services for immediate help.
Tooth Knocked Out
1. Find the tooth and pick it up by the crown, not the root. 2. If clean, attempt to reinsert into socket. If not possible, keep tooth moist in milk or saliva. 3. Seek emergency dental treatment.
Burns
1. Run cool water over the burn for several minutes. 2. Cover with a clean, dry cloth. 3. Do not apply ice, butter, or ointments and seek medical help if necessary.
Cuts and Scrapes
1. Clean the wound with gentle soap and water. 2. Apply an antibiotic ointment. 3. Cover with a sterile bandage.
Seizure
1. Protect the child from injury by clearing the area. 2. Place child on their side to help maintain an open airway. 3. Do not restrain the child; call emergency services if the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes.
Allergic Reaction
1. Check if the child is carrying an epinephrine auto-injector. 2. Administer the auto-injector as soon as possible if it's available. 3. Call emergency services immediately.
Splinter
1. Wash your hands and the affected area. 2. Gently remove the splinter with tweezers. 3. After removal, clean the area again and apply an antibiotic ointment.
Choking Infant (Under 1 Year)
1. Give 5 back slaps using the heel of your hand. 2. Provide 5 chest thrusts. 3. Repeat back slaps and chest thrusts until the object is dislodged or the infant becomes unresponsive.
Child With High Fever
1. Remove excess clothing. 2. Apply a cool compress. 3. Offer plenty of fluids and consider appropriate dose of fever-reducing medication.
Hypothermia
1. Move the child to a warmer environment. 2. Remove wet clothing and dry the child. 3. Wrap the child in warm blankets and seek medical attention.
