Short-Term Goals
Goals that can be achieved in a relatively brief period of time, such as improving dribbling skills over two weeks in soccer or increasing one's batting average over the course of a few games.
SMART Goals
Goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. An example might be a volleyball player aiming to increase their serve success by 5% in the next month.
Long-Term Goals
These goals take a significant amount of time to achieve, and are often the culmination of many short-term goals. Examples include qualifying for the Olympics or becoming a professional athlete in a chosen sport.
Outcome Goals
Focused on end result, usually compared against others. For example, winning a race or a league championship.
Performance Goals
Centered on achieving standards based on one's previous performances, not on the outcome of others. Such as, improving personal time in a 100m sprint or increasing free-throw percentage in basketball.
Team Goals
Goals that are set collectively by a team, focusing on what the group wants to achieve. Examples include a basketball team aiming to reach the playoffs or a soccer team wanting to have the best defensive record in the league.
Individual Goals
Personal goals set by an individual athlete, tailored to their own progress and skills. For example, a tennis player aiming to increase the accuracy of their serve.
Process Goals
Focuses on the actions an individual must engage in during performance to execute or perform well. An example might be focusing on maintaining a specific form during swimming or a consistent swing in golf.
