DNA Transcription Process

Flashcards
0/5
Initiation
This is the beginning stage of transcription where RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region of DNA, initiating the unwinding of the DNA helix.
Elongation
During this stage, RNA polymerase moves along the DNA template strand, synthesizing RNA in a 5' to 3' direction by adding nucleotides to the 3' end of the growing RNA molecule.
Termination
This stage involves the ending of RNA synthesis when RNA polymerase encounters a termination signal in the DNA sequence, causing the transcript to be released.
RNA splicing
Following transcription, RNA splicing occurs where introns are removed and exons are joined together to form the mature mRNA that exits the nucleus.
RNA processing
RNA processing refers to modifications that RNA transcripts undergo before becoming functional. This includes capping at the 5' end, polyadenylation at the 3' end, and RNA splicing.
