Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Characterized by persistent, excessive, and unrealistic worry about everyday things. Symptoms include restlessness, fatigue, concentration problems, irritability, muscle tension, and sleep disturbance.
Major Depressive Disorder
A mental disorder causing persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest. Symptoms include depressed mood, decreased energy, feelings of worthlessness, impaired concentration, and thoughts of death or suicide.
Bipolar Disorder
Mental disorder marked by extreme mood swings from mania to depression. Symptoms of mania include increased energy, euphoria, and irritability, while depressive episodes involve low energy and motivation, sadness, and loss of interest.
Panic Disorder
An anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent, unexpected panic attacks. Symptoms include palpitations, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, and feelings of impending doom.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Antisocial Personality Disorder
A mental condition where a person has a long-term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others. Symptoms include disregard for right and wrong, deceitfulness, and impulsivity.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Characterized by a long-standing pattern of grandiosity, a constant need for admiration, and lack of empathy. Symptoms include a sense of entitlement, exploitative behavior, and arrogance.
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Formerly known as multiple personality disorder, this condition is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personality states. Symptoms include gaps in memory and fragmented identities.
Specific Phobias
Marked fear or anxiety about a specific object or situation, leading to avoidant behavior. Symptoms include immediate fear response and significant distress that disrupts normal functioning.
Agoraphobia
An anxiety disorder where a person fears and often avoids places or situations that might cause panic or feelings of trapped, helpless, or embarrassed. Symptoms include fear of open spaces, crowds, or leaving home alone.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
A type of depression that occurs at a specific time of year, usually in the winter, when there is less natural sunlight. Symptoms include fatigue, depression, hopelessness, and social withdrawal.
Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia
Characterized by panic attacks and fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult or help wouldn't be available if things go wrong. Leads to avoidance of these situations.
Trichotillomania (Hair-Pulling Disorder)
An impulse control disorder characterized by a long-term urge that results in the pulling out of one's hair. Symptoms include noticeable hair loss, distress, and an increased tension before pulling.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
A mental disorder characterized by the obsessive idea that some aspect of one's own appearance is severely flawed and warrants exceptional measures to hide or fix it. Symptoms include mirror checking, excessive grooming, and skin picking.
Conversion Disorder
A condition in which a person has blindness, paralysis, or other nervous system symptoms that cannot be explained by medical evaluation. Symptoms include unexplained numbness, paralysis, or tremors.
Hoarding Disorder
A persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions because of a perceived need to save them. Symptoms include cluttered living spaces, difficulty organizing items, and distress when attempting to discard items.
Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
A chronic form of depression where a person's mood is regularly low. Symptoms include poor appetite or overeating, insomnia or hypersomnia, low energy, and low self-esteem.
Histrionic Personality Disorder
A personality disorder characterized by a pattern of excessive attention-seeking behaviors, usually beginning in early adulthood. Symptoms include provocative behavior, rapid shifting of emotions, and using appearance to draw attention.
Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder
An altered state of awareness where one feels detached from one's surroundings or body. Symptoms include feelings of unreality, robotic/mechanical sensations, and emotional or physical numbness.
Intermittent Explosive Disorder
A disorder characterized by repeated, sudden episodes of impulsive, aggressive, violent behavior or angry verbal outbursts. Symptoms include temper tantrums, arguments, and fighting.
Somatization Disorder
A type of mental illness that causes one to experience physical pain and symptoms without any discernible physical cause. Symptoms include pain, neurologic problems, and gastrointestinal complaints.
Pyromania
An impulse control disorder characterized by a fascination with fire and an irresistible urge to set things on fire. Symptoms include deliberate and purposeful fire setting, tension before the act, and fascination with fires and fire-related paraphernalia.
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
A mental disorder characterized by severe social anxiety, thought disorder, paranoid ideation, derealization, transient psychosis, and often unconventional beliefs. Symptoms include odd behavior or thinking and discomfort in close relationships.
