Sheepsfoot Rollers (Padfoot Rollers)
Designed with protruding 'feet,' these rollers focus pressure on small areas. Effective for compacting cohesive soils with high moisture content.
Dynamic Compaction
A heavy weight is dropped on the ground from a significant height, used for deep compaction of loose granular soils and stabilization of fill material.
Static Rollers
Static rollers compress soil through their weight. Ideal for fine-grained soils like clays and silts, which require long-term pressure for compaction.
Pneumatic Rollers (Rubber-Tired Rollers)
Pneumatic rollers use a series of rubber tires to provide an even pressure across the soil. Great for sealing the surface and working on both cohesively and non-cohesive soils.
Smooth Wheeled Rollers
Utilizing smooth steel drums, these rollers rely purely on their weight. Best used for compacting crushed rock or gravel.
Tamping Rollers
Tamping rollers have rectangular shaped protrusions on the roller drum, providing a kneading action ideal for silty soils.
Grid Rollers
Grid rollers have a cylindrical surface made of a grid of steel bars, providing a kneading action and high contact pressure, predominantly used for well-graded soils with cobbles or larger particle sizes.
Vibratory Rollers
Vibratory rollers use dynamic forces in addition to weight. Best suited for sands and gravels because vibrations reduce internal friction.
