Keratomileusis
A surgical procedure that involves reshaping the cornea for correcting vision problems such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
Corneal Flap
The thin piece of corneal tissue that is surgically created and lifted during the LASIK procedure to allow the excimer laser to reshape the corneal tissue beneath.
PRK
Photorefractive Keratectomy, a type of laser eye surgery that involves reshaping the cornea surface without creating a flap.
LASIK
Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, a procedure that corrects vision by reshaping the cornea using an excimer laser.
Excimer Laser
A form of ultraviolet laser used in eye surgery to precisely remove corneal tissue and reshape the cornea.
Wavefront Analysis
A diagnostic procedure that produces a detailed 3D map of the aberrations affecting the optical system of the eye, used in custom LASIK.
Femtosecond Laser
An infrared laser used in ophthalmology to create a corneal flap in LASIK surgery or for the precise construction of corneal incisions in cataract surgery.
Aberrometry
A technique used in laser eye procedures to measure the total amount of aberrations, including higher-order aberrations, in the eye's optical system.
Microkeratome
A precision surgical instrument with an oscillating blade designed to create the corneal flap during LASIK surgery.
Epithelial Healing
The process by which the outermost layer of the cornea, the epithelium, heals and regenerates after procedures like PRK.
