Flashcards

Pain
Pain in uveitis can range from aching or soreness to intense pain, depending on the severity and the area of the uveal tract affected.
Floaters
Floaters are seen as small dark shapes that float across the vision. They are caused by inflammatory debris within the vitreous body.
Photophobia
Photophobia is heightened light sensitivity. In uveitis, it is due to inflammation of the iris and ciliary body.
Redness of the Eye
Redness in uveitis is caused by inflammation and dilation of blood vessels in the eye. It is often accompanied by pain and light sensitivity.
Increased Intraocular Pressure
Uveitis can result in an increase of intraocular pressure due to inflammatory debris blocking the eye's drainage system, potentially leading to glaucoma.
Irregular Pupil
Uveitis can lead to an irregularly shaped pupil due to the adhesions that form between the iris and the lens, known as posterior synechiae.
Vision Loss
Severe uveitis can cause vision loss through complications such as macular edema, cataract formation, glaucoma, or retinal detachment.
Blurred Vision
Patients with uveitis may experience blurred vision due to the inflammatory response causing fluid and cells to enter the vitreous, which normally is clear.
