Ligaments of the Knee
15
Flashcards
0/15
Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)
Prevents anterior translation of the tibia relative to the femur and provides rotational stability.
Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL)
Prevents posterior translation of the tibia relative to the femur.
Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL)
Prevents excessive inward motion (valgus) of the knee.
Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL)
Prevents excessive outward motion (varus) of the knee.
Patellar Ligament
Connects the patella to the tibia and helps in extending the knee.
Oblique Popliteal Ligament
Stabilizes the posterior aspect of the knee joint.
Arcuate Popliteal Ligament
Strengthens the joint capsule of the knee posteriorly, laterally.
Medial Patellofemoral Ligament (MPFL)
Provides medial stability to the patella and prevents lateral dislocation.
Iliotibial Band (IT Band)
Provides lateral stability to the knee and assists in knee extension and flexion.
Anterolateral Ligament (ALL)
Assists with rotational stability and controls internal tibial rotation.
Quadricipital Tendon
Connects the quadriceps muscles to the patella.
Medial Meniscus Transverse Ligament
Connects the anterior parts of the medial and lateral meniscus of the knee.
Coronary Ligaments
Connect the menisci to the tibia, stabilizing the menisci.
Ligament of Wrisberg
Assists with posterior stabilization of the knee.
Ligament of Humphrey
Assists with posterior stabilization of the knee, similar to the Ligament of Wrisberg.
