Passive Play
This rule requires teams to make an effort to progress towards scoring. Penalty: Referee's throw at the center line or a free-throw to the opposition.
Hair or Jewellery Pulling
Pulling an opponent's hair or jewellery is not allowed. Penalty: Free-throw for the affected team and potential two-minute suspension or disqualification for the offender.
Double Dribble
Occurs when a player dribbles, stops and holds the ball, and then dribbles again or dribbles with both hands. Penalty: Free-throw from the spot of the infraction.
Goal Crease Violation
Field players may not step inside the goal crease. Penalty: Goalkeeper's throw if committed by an attacker, and a penalty throw if committed by a defender in certain situations.
3-Second Rule
An attacker in possession of the ball must pass, shoot, or dribble within 3 seconds. Penalty: Turnover and a free-throw to the opposition.
Charging
A defender may not run into an attacking player. Penalty: Free-throw from the spot of the foul or a 7-meter penalty throw if a clear scoring chance was obstructed.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct
Includes any action that is contrary to good sportsmanship, like arguing with the referee. Penalty: Free-throw or a 7-meter penalty throw for more serious cases, and/or player suspension.
Illegal Substitution
Substitution must occur within the designated area and during a break in the game. Penalty: Two-minute suspension or disqualification for improper conduct.
Hitting or Slapping
Hitting or slapping an opponent is not permitted. Penalty: Free-throw for the opposing team, and a two-minute suspension or disqualification for severe offenses.
Throwing the Ball Away
Intentionally throwing the ball away to prevent the opposition from quickly executing a free-throw. Penalty: Two-minute suspension for the offending player.
Illegal Blocking
Defenders are not allowed to pull, hit or punch the ball away from the attacker. Penalty: Free-throw where the infraction occurred, or a 7-meter penalty throw for more severe offenses.
Pulling the Goalkeeper
Occurs when a player intentionally pulls the goalkeeper away from the goal. Penalty: Disqualification of the offender and a 7-meter penalty throw awarded to the opposition.
Illegal Use of the Body
Using elbows or force in a way that is not permitted to gain an advantage. Penalty: Free-throw for the opposing team and potentially a two-minute suspension for the offender.
Walking
A player may take up to 3 steps without dribbling, passing, or shooting the ball. Penalty: Turnover and a free-throw to the opposition.
Referee Interference
Interfering with a referee's ability to conduct the game. Penalty: Two-minute suspension or complete disqualification for serious cases.
Goalkeeper Violation
Occurs if the goalkeeper leaves the goal area or returns to the area from the playing field without the ball. Penalty: Penalty throw for the opposition.
Holding
Occurs when a player grabs another player. Penalty: Free-throw for the opposing team at the spot of the offense, and/or a two-minute suspension for persistent holding.
Dangerous Play
Play that can harm others, e.g. high kicks near a player's head. Penalty: Free-throw for the opposing team, and in severe cases, a two-minute suspension or disqualification.
Illegal Entry
Entering the court from incorrect positions or before a teammate has completely left the court. Penalty: Free-throw for the opposition from the spot of the infraction.
Illegal Screen/Block
Using the torso to block an opponent who is not in possession of the ball. Penalty: Free-throw for the opposing team from the spot of the offense.
