Prop
Part of the front row in the scrum, responsible for providing stability and support.
Hooker
Central player in the scrum who aims to 'hook' the ball back to their team.
Lock
Tall player who is a primary jumper in line-outs and adds push to the scrum.
Flanker
Mobile forwards who are often the first to the breakdown to secure possession or to make tackles.
Number 8
Links forwards and backs, controls the ball at the base of the scrum and plays a key role in receiving kick-offs.
Scrum-half
Distributes the ball from the base of the scrum, rucks, and mauls, also directs the team's play.
Fly-half
Key decision-maker, directs the team's attacking play and often takes kicks at goal.
Winger
Speedy player who plays along the outside edges of the field and looks to finish attacking moves with tries.
Center
Combines strength and agility to break through the opposition's defensive line and to defend against attacks.
Fullback
Last line of defense, diffuses high kicks or counterattacks from deep within own territory.
Blindside Flanker
Specialist flanker tasked with defending and attacking the 'blind side' of scrums and line-outs.
Openside Flanker
Flanker who specializes in playing on the 'open side', covering more field space and focusing on obtaining possession during breakdowns.
Inside Center
Creates scoring opportunities by breaking through the defensive line, and also fulfills defensive duties.
Outside Center
Responsible for executing tactical plays to outflank the opposition and bolstering the defense.
Wing Forward
Another term for flanker, responsible for winning possession at breakdowns and supporting play around the pitch.
