Tandem Attack
Execution: Two hitters approach for a hit, but only one actually strikes the ball, ideally confusing the defense. Purpose: To create uncertainty in the blockers and open up the offense.
Quick Set
Execution: A very fast low pass to the hitter, minimizing the time the ball is in the air. Purpose: To surprise the opponent and reduce their time to react and block.
Libero Replacement
Execution: The libero, a defensive specialist, replaces a back-row player without prior notice to the officials. Purpose: To strengthen the defensive play without using a substitution.
Double Block
Execution: Two players jump together to block a hitter at the net. Purpose: To increase the chances of blocking the ball and covering more area of the net.
Slide Attack
Execution: Hitter runs parallel to the net and hits the ball behind them while in motion. Purpose: To confuse the opponent's blockers and open up attack options.
Off-speed Hit
Execution: Deliberately hitting the ball with less power. Purpose: To catch the opponent off-guard when they're expecting a hard hit.
Dive and Roll
Execution: Player dives to reach the ball and rolls to dissipate impact and quickly recover. Purpose: To save difficult balls and quickly return to play.
Float Serve
Execution: Hit the ball with a flat hand so it has little or no spin, causing unpredictable movements. Purpose: To confuse the opponent and create errors in their reception.
Back Row Attack
Execution: A player from the back row jumps from behind the 3-meter line to hit the ball. Purpose: To diversify the angles of attack and exploit less defended areas of the court.
Bump Set
Execution: Using the forearms to set the ball when unable to use fingertips. Purpose: To provide an accurate set to hitters when the ball is too difficult to handle with hands.
Topspin Serve
Execution: Toss the ball into the air and strike it with a forward wrist snap, giving it topspin. Purpose: To create a downward trajectory and make the ball drop quickly, making it difficult for the opponent to receive.
Isolation Play
Execution: Setters target a single blocker to set the ball against. Purpose: To isolate a hitter against a weaker or single blocker, increasing the chance of a successful attack.
