Kidneys
Bean-shaped organs located on the posterior abdominal wall, responsible for filtering waste products from the blood and producing urine.
Ureters
Tubular structures that transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder by peristaltic movements.
Urinary Bladder
A hollow, muscular organ that stores urine before excretion.
Urethra
A tube that connects the urinary bladder to the urinary meatus for the removal of urine from the body.
Renal Artery
A blood vessel that supplies the kidneys with oxygen-rich blood.
Renal Vein
A blood vessel that carries filtered, deoxygenated blood away from the kidneys to the inferior vena cava.
Renal Cortex
The outer part of the kidney that contains the glomeruli and the convoluted tubules.
Renal Medulla
The inner part of the kidney that contains the loops of Henle, collecting ducts, and renal pyramids.
Renal Pelvis
A funnel-shaped structure at the center of the kidney that collects urine from the calyces and channels it into the ureter.
Nephron
The functional unit of the kidney that filters blood to form urine. It includes a glomerulus, Bowman's capsule, proximal tubule, loop of Henle, distal tubule, and collecting duct.
