Flashcards
0/5
High Density Lipoproteins (HDL)
Composition: large proportion of protein with some cholesterol. Function: involved in reverse cholesterol transport from tissues back to the liver.
Intermediate Density Lipoproteins (IDL)
Composition: more cholesterol than VLDL. Function: transition particles in the degradation of VLDL, some are removed by the liver, the rest are transformed into LDL.
Chylomicrons
Composition: mainly triglycerides. Function: transport dietary lipids from the intestines to other locations in the body.
Very Low Density Lipoproteins (VLDL)
Composition: mainly triglycerides with some cholesterol. Function: to transport endogenous triglycerides from the liver to adipose tissue and muscles.
Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL)
Composition: mainly cholesterol. Function: delivers cholesterol to cells, which can be used for membrane biosynthesis and other functions.
