Flashcards

MRI of the Heart
Purpose is to provide detailed images of the heart and blood vessels using magnetic resonance imaging, helps to assess the structure and function.
Nuclear Stress Test
Purpose is to measure blood flow to the heart muscle at rest and during stress using radioactive dye and imaging techniques.
Cardiac MRI Stress Test
Purpose is to evaluate the heart and blood vessels' function and structure during stress, usually induced by medication, with MRI technology.
Echocardiogram
Purpose is to use ultrasound waves to create images of the heart and measure the size, structure, and function of the heart and valves.
Cardiac Catheterization
Purpose is to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions by inserting a catheter into a blood vessel to the heart and measuring pressures, taking images.
Holter Monitor
Purpose is to continuously record heart's electrical activity for 24-48 hours to detect irregularities that aren't found during a regular ECG.
Tilt Table Test
Purpose is to evaluate the cause of unexplained fainting (syncope) by measuring how the body responds to changes in position.
Myocardial Biopsy
Purpose is to remove and examine small samples of the heart muscle tissue to diagnose myocarditis, cardiomyopathies and other heart disorders.
Stress Test
Purpose is to measure how the heart works during physical stress on a treadmill or stationary bike and evaluate the blood flow to the heart.
Event Monitor
Purpose is similar to a Holter Monitor but is used for long-term monitoring, typically from a few weeks to a few months, to catch infrequent arrhythmias.
Signal Averaged ECG
Purpose is to analyze very small variations in the ECG waveform that may indicate risk of developing a heart rhythm disorder.
Cardiac PET Scan
Purpose is to use positron emission tomography to measure blood flow and metabolic processes in the heart muscle.
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
Purpose is to record blood pressure at regular intervals over 24 hours to provide a more accurate picture of blood pressure changes over a typical day and night.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Purpose is to record the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time and measure heart rhythm, heart rate, and other cardiac events.
CT Angiography
Purpose is to use computed tomography to obtain images of the arteries that supply blood to the heart to check for blockages.
